Welcome to Analogy Camp

Ahhh, camp. The bug spray, the crackling fire, the fishing poles, the friendship bracelets, the stories that got taller every time they were told.

Camp was always more than s’mores and songs — it was a place to try new things, practice real skills, and come home with a few good stories and a whole lot of confidence.

That’s the spirit behind Analogy Camp.

Over three days, you’ll roll up your sleeves and tackle three classic camp activities — fishing, knot tying, and campfire storytelling. Only this time, the “skills” you’re learning aren’t for the woods… they’re for your words. It’s camp for your communication. By the end, you’ll leave with a backpack full of analogies, ready to pull out and deploy when you need to captivate attention, simplify the complex, and give your ideas a fresh spark. And begin to hone the skills to develop new analogies on the fly.

Philosopher Max Black called analogies “a kind of magical mental short-cut.” The right analogy creates a bridge between the new and the familiar, so people get what you’re saying fast. Take A Peek Inside...

Over three days, we’ll unpack the science and skill of analogy building — exploring why they work, how to craft them, and where to use them. Along the way, you’ll earn three camp-inspired badges that make your messaging more captivating, more connecting, and more memorable.

Day 1: Fishing

Like casting a line, analogies help you hook curiosity right from the start. You’ll learn how to drop them at the front of your message (think hooks, headlines, and openers) so people lean in instead of scroll past.

Day 2: Knot-Tying

This is all about connection through demonstration. You’ll practice weaving analogies into your message at the moment of decision — in closes, calls to action, and turning points — so your ideas hold strong and inspire trust.

Day 3: Campfire Stories

Around the fire, stories evolve, swap, and spread. On Day 3, you’ll focus on storytelling as a part of your analogy toolbox - using them to give old ideas new life, make complex ideas easy, and leave people with takeaways that are memorable and meaningful.

What will I learn?

You’ll learn how to build and use analogies as a core messaging skill. Over three days, we’ll unpack both the science (why analogies work on the brain) and the skill (how to craft and deploy them).

What do I need to participate?

All you need is:Internet access (the challenge is hosted online), a notebook or digital space to complete daily homework assignments and work through the exercises, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves and put the strategies into action.

What happens if I miss a day?

You’ll have access to all the recording for that day until the Sunday following the challenge, so you can catch up or rewatch a particularly juicy session.

Is this really going to help me?

Analogies are one of the most powerful tools we have for communication because they:
